Chronic prostatitis

Chronic inflammation of the prostate gland affects approximately 30% of men between the ages of 20 and 50.This is one of the most common urological diseases among men.

Due to inflammation, prostatitis is divided into two groups. The first group includes infectious prostatitis, which can be caused by various bacteria, viruses or fungal diseases.

Chronic prostatitis

The second group includes the so-called congestive prostatitis, caused by stagnation of the fluid (secret) of the prostate and blood in the veins of this organ. The development of these symptoms is observed, for example, with irregular sexual activity.Venous congestion can occur during prolonged sedentary work in a sedentary position (for example, drivers of motor vehicles, mental workers), when wearing tight underwear, and also in case of alcohol abuse.

Factors in the development of prostatitis

In addition, factors predisposing to the development of prostatitis are: a decrease in the body's defenses, hormonal disorders, untreated foci of infection, from which microbes penetrate the prostate gland and contribute to the development of inflammation.

The risk of prostatitis due to decreased immunity is greater in often ill people, against a background of nervous overload, chronic stress, smoking and alcohol. All these factors facilitate the penetration of the infection into the prostate gland or lead to a deterioration of the blood supply to the pelvic organs, stagnant processes, which contribute to the proliferation of microorganisms and the development of the inflammatory process.

What happens?

Most often, prostatitis develops in a chronic form, over the course of several years, without causing much concern. In this case, mild pain and discomfort may occur in the perineum, radiating to the sacrum, genitals or rectum.Frequent, painful, and sometimes difficult urination and mild discharge from the urethra are periodically observed.

Unfortunately, most men at this stage do not pay attention to such symptoms, but in vain. The danger of chronic prostatitis is that its spread through the urinary system can lead to the development of cystitis and pyelonephritis.

In addition, complications of prostatitis are vesiculitis - inflammation of the seminal vesicles and orchiepididymitis - inflammation of the testicles and their appendages, which can ultimately lead to male infertility. In addition, inflammatory processes in the prostate gland can subsequently cause the development of prostate adenoma or prostate cancer.

After some time, prostatitis causes erection problems. This is due to the involvement in the inflammatory process of the nerves responsible for erectile function that pass through the prostate gland.

Diagnosis and treatment

So, if you have at least one of the listed symptoms, do not hesitate, do not start the disease: go to a urologist or andrologist.Your doctor will ask you to undergo an initial examination, which includes testing for sexually transmitted infections and an ultrasound of your pelvic organs and prostate gland, and will perform a digital rectal exam of your prostate. There is no need to be afraid of him: an experienced doctor will not harm you. This study is extremely informative. It allows to clarify the diagnosis and severity of the disease.By touching the gland (through the anus), the doctor not only finds out what happened to it, but also gets a sample of its secretion. Before starting the treatment, a bacteriological culture of the prostatic secretion will be carried out in the laboratory to determine the sensitivity of its microflora to various antibacterial drugs.Without this, the treatment will not be effective and may lead not to the elimination of the disease, but to its transition to a new, more severe form.

Drug therapy for prostatitis is complemented by prostate massage, which reduces congestion, improves blood flow and evacuation of glandular secretions.Unfortunately, modern medicine is not yet able to solve the problem of a definitive cure for prostatitis. The doctor is able to bring the disease to the remission stage (no symptoms) for two or three years.Afterwards the treatment must be repeated.

Prevention

It is always much easier to prevent a disease than to cure it.Therefore, try to follow simple preventive measures that can protect you from all the "delights" of prostatitis.Reject fashion that forces you to constantly wear tight, skin-tight swimsuits.Loose cotton panties are much more hygienic and do not interfere with normal blood flow to the prostate.

In addition, avoid hypothermia, move more, and if it is not possible to have regular sexual intercourse, masturbate: according to doctors, this is at the same time cleansing, self-massage and prevention of prostatitis.
